CHARLES WHITE GALLERY
This former Otis gallery, is part of Charles White Elementary and is curated in partnership with LACMA's education department. The shows always transform the space and find interesting ways to engage children in the school and in visiting, with artist in a workshop and subsequent exhibition.
As lead exhibition designer the gallery offered a unique opportunity to collaborate with artists and educators to optimize the space both programmatically and conceptually. A few of the shows I worked on were:
Shinique Smith: First Hand
Feb 9-July 19 2013
Kaz Oshiro: Chasing Ghosts
Jan 24-Jun 7 2014
Curator : SARAH JESSE
Creating moving storage as gallery furniture was na important update for the space. Each show required reconsidering the limitations of the gallery, the safety of the children, and the best way to maneuver the given area for both workshop and display.
